Packaging Photography That Sells: Why Great Packaging Images Matter More Than Ever for Today’s Brands

When consumers discover your product, your packaging is often the very first thing they notice. Whether they’re browsing grocery store shelves, shopping online, scrolling through social media, or reviewing a sales presentation, the quality of your packaging images plays a major role in shaping their perception of your brand.

Today’s consumers have more choices than ever before, and first impressions happen in seconds. Professional packaging photography helps communicate quality, build trust, and encourage customers to take the next step—whether that’s making a purchase, learning more about your company, or choosing your product over a competitor’s.

For brands preparing a product launch, refreshing existing packaging, or expanding into retail, investing in professional packaging photography from Indresano Studios is one of the most valuable marketing decisions you can make.

What Is Packaging Photography?

Packaging photography focuses on creating high-quality images of finished consumer packaging rather than the product alone. The goal is to showcase the complete package exactly as customers will experience it while highlighting the design, branding, colors, textures, and details that make it stand out.

Packaging photography is used across nearly every industry, including:

  • Food and beverage
  • Consumer packaged goods (CPG)
  • Health and wellness
  • Medical products
  • Beauty and cosmetics
  • Household products
  • Pet products
  • Specialty retail
  • Consumer electronics

From folding cartons and flexible pouches to bottles, cans, jars, frozen food boxes, and premium retail packaging, every package presents unique creative and technical challenges that require experience and attention to detail that we at Indresano Studios can provide.

Packaging Photography vs. Product Photography

Although the terms are often used interchangeably, packaging photography and product photography serve different purposes.

Product photography typically highlights the product itself, whether it’s removed from its packaging or presented in a lifestyle setting. Packaging photography focuses on the finished package as a branded marketing asset.

Many successful marketing campaigns combine both.

For example, a food company may need:

  • Hero images of the retail package
  • Individual product photography
  • Lifestyle photography
  • Social media content
  • Product demonstration videos
  • CGI renderings for packaging concepts
  • Animation for digital advertising

By creating a complete library of visual assets, brands can maintain consistency across every customer touchpoint.

Where Packaging Photography Makes an Impact

Professional packaging photography extends far beyond the grocery shelf.

Today’s brands rely on packaging images for:

  • Company websites
  • E-commerce stores
  • Amazon and online marketplaces
  • Retail sales presentations
  • Digital advertising
  • Print advertising
  • Product catalogs
  • Trade show displays
  • Social media marketing
  • Public relations materials
  • Investor presentations
  • Packaging mockups
  • Product launch campaigns

The same image may appear in dozens of different places throughout a product’s lifecycle, making quality and consistency essential.

Why Packaging Photography Is More Challenging Than It Looks

Great packaging photography is about much more than placing a product in front of a camera.

Different materials require different lighting techniques, camera angles, and post-production workflows to accurately represent the package while preserving the integrity of the brand.

Common challenges include:

  • Reflective plastic and glass
  • Metallic inks and foil stamping
  • Glossy finishes
  • Transparent packaging
  • Flexible pouches that don’t naturally stand upright
  • Highly detailed labels
  • Color accuracy across multiple product variations
  • Complex package shapes
  • Consistency across an entire product line

Professional lighting, expert retouching, and color-managed workflows crafted by Indresano Studios, ensure that every image represents the product as accurately and attractively as possible.

Why Consistency Matters for Growing Brands

As brands grow, consistency becomes increasingly important.

Customers expect products to look the same whether they’re shopping online, browsing social media, viewing a digital advertisement, or walking through a retail store.

Professional packaging photography helps maintain that consistency by creating a cohesive visual identity across every marketing channel.

For companies managing multiple product lines or launching new SKUs, maintaining a consistent photographic style reinforces brand recognition and creates a more polished customer experience.

Planning for More Than a Single Image

The most successful product launches don’t rely on one hero image alone.

Instead, they create a complete collection of marketing assets that can be used throughout the launch and beyond.

A single production may include:

  • Packaging photography
  • Product photography
  • Lifestyle photography
  • Commercial video production
  • Social media videos
  • CGI product visualization
  • Animation and motion graphics
  • Image retouching
  • Web-ready assets
  • Print-ready files

Planning these deliverables together creates greater efficiency while ensuring a consistent look across every platform.

Choosing the Right Packaging Photography Partner

Not every commercial photography studio specializes in packaging photography.

When evaluating a creative partner, brands should look for experience with:

  • Consumer packaged goods (CPG)
  • Food packaging photography
  • Color-managed production workflows
  • Professional retouching
  • Complex lighting techniques
  • High-volume product libraries
  • Print and digital asset creation
  • Video production and CGI integration

Choosing a studio, such as Indresano Studios, that understands both the creative and technical aspects of packaging photography helps ensure that your marketing assets continue delivering value long after the photo shoot is complete.

Investing in Images That Represent Your Brand

Your packaging represents years of product development, branding, design, and marketing. The photography should reflect that same level of quality.

Whether you’re introducing a new product, redesigning existing packaging, preparing for a retail launch, or expanding your e-commerce presence, professional packaging photography helps your products stand out in an increasingly competitive marketplace.

At Indresano Studios, we partner with consumer brands, food companies, startups, manufacturers, and established organizations to create high-end packaging photography that supports product launches, retail marketing, e-commerce, advertising campaigns, and brand growth. In addition to commercial photography, our team offers product videos, CGI, animation, retouching, and creative production services to help brands build cohesive visual campaigns across every marketing channel.

If your next product deserves photography that reflects the quality of your brand, we’d love to help bring it to life.

Dog & Cat Photography Stars Take Over Boston!

Some may say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.
We, at Indresano Studios, beg to differ!

Earlier this year, Indresano Studios selected a cat and dog duo to test out some delicious new food on the market!

Meet Kingsley and Big Papi!

Kingsley (left) and Big Papi (right) enjoy some delicious grub!

Indresano Studios met this amazing team earlier this year during a pet casting call we hosted in Boston, Ma.

We were on the hunt for the perfect pair and boy did we find it!

Meet Kingsley

Even though Kingsley was only 2 years old during our commercial photoshoot, he was a star! Kingsley loved the camera. His excellent training was essential during our shoot. He knew exactly where to go and we, at Indresano Studios, had no problems directing him.

Now that’s a good boy!

Meet Big Papi

Big Papi was a treat to have on set! He was very comfortable with the camera flash, and you could tell this wasn’t his first rodeo. Big Papi was definitely treat motivated and enjoyed all the attention coming his way.

Looking good, feline good!

Kingsley and Big Papi were a joy to have on set. Our team at Indresano Studios loved directing them throughout our photography and video shoots. We couldn’t have picked a more paw-some duo!

Indresano Studios assists our clients in every aspect of production. From photography, video, CGI, and animation, to pet casting calls, and so much more!

BEST BOSTON VIDEO PRODUCTION AND COMMERCIAL PHOTOGRAPHY OF 2020

2020 was a year unlike any other in many ways, but especially at our Boston based video production and commercial photography studio. Take a look at just a few highlights from our studio’s video and photography projects in 2020!

We loved having Boston Dynamic’s Spot in our studio for a product reveal photo shoot. New studio pet?!

Our video production crew traveled to a National Grid substation to film a customer storytelling video of Boston Dynamic’s incredible robot Spot in action. Check out the video below!

We used our expertise in product videos to create strong, chic, and informative product videos for Samsonite’s top of the line products.

The 2020 COVID-19 pandemic was undoubtably unexpected, but our team at Indresano Studios looks at every situation through a creative lens. Our dedicated Director and video crew spent multiple days in masks and PPE shooting the empty streets of Boston during the March and April 2020 city wide shutdown. As a full service Boston production studio, we felt inspired to document life in the city during the pandemic. We created the below Empty Streets video using our own footage and audio from Mayor Walsh.

Our Empty Streets video received tons of praise and was shared by Mayor Walsh on his social media accounts including instagram, facebook, and twitter.

Our production team kept busy throughout quarantine, adapted to the unprecedented times, and enforced strict social distancing and safety policies throughout the studio. Our team is endlessly thankful to all the health care workers who made it possible for us to continue working. We were able to work hard on a lot of remote photo and remote video shoots as well as many CGI projects like the Bose CGI video below.

Our in house CGI artists and creative team also created the below video for the Nike Mercurial Superfly 7.

Our team traveled to multiple locations in 2020 for different on location video shoots and on location photo shoots. One of our location shoots took place at a Boston hospital. This healthcare video shoot was a big success.

Our talented team always has an appetite for food photo shoots, especially editorial food photo shoots. Check out some of our favorite food photos from this year.

We kept our creative juices flowing and our taste buds satiated throughout the year with multiple ice cream photo shoots and ice cream video shoots. Check out a few of our favorite editorial ice cream shots below.

On top of all the major world events happening in 2020, it was also a U.S election year. Our creative team put our video skills to use to create a video encouraging people to get out and VOTE in the presidential election. We are happy we have the video tools, editing knowledge, and creative vision to help promote the vote.

Our video team also used our skills to create a powerful fundraising video for a virtual fundraiser for the Women for Walsh campaign.

2020 was a crazy and unprecedented year, but our production team at Indresano Studios has proven we can take on any challenge with creativity, composure and style. We cannot wait to see what 2021 has in store for us!

Cheers to the start of 2019 with an on location video shoot in Boston! We did everything for this video shoot from pre-production including in house casting, location scouting, creating the video storyboard, to shooting the video footage, and handling all aspects of post production like sourcing and managing the Voice Over artist and editing the final video.

If you’ve been to Indresano Studios, you know we love to create, produce, direct and edit high end and high quality videos in our Boston based studio. In the winter of 2019 we did just that with the below Chanel Ad video. Don’t enter into 2020 without giving it a watch!

Netflix’s Stranger Things came to Indresano Studios for ice cream photography in February 2019 and the Demogorgon sundae was unleashed! Check out one of our final Stranger Things video creations here (at your own risk).

Our Boston video production journey took us all over the city in March with the below documentary we created for the Pine Street Inn’s 50th anniversary in 2019. We highly recommend giving it a watch. It was without a doubt the most rewarding and eye-opening video production project we created this year.

We added colorful, playful and vibrant additions to our corporate persona photography and corporate persona video portfolios at Indresano Studios this year with a big photo and video campaign for a huge networking event. We shot both video and photo assets in April 2019 for the event in the Fall. Check out some of the final retouched images below!

You can see our video about Medicine Wheel’s Hand in Hand program below.

We were honored to receive 2 awards from the 13th annual Black and White Spider Photography Awards this year for both our Bowflex M7 photo and video shoot as well as our Range Rover photo and video shoot.

We had a successful lifestyle photography shoot in the studio in June 2019 for a rebranding of a popular healthcare company. We handled all aspects of this healthcare photo shoot from in house casting for over 25 models, sourcing wardrobe, organizing the shoot schedule to shooting and retouching the final images.

Michael Indresano is a well known lifestyle photographer for major healthcare companies

If you’ve ever been to our Boston based studio, you would know we are major dog lovers. Needless to say we were very excited when we had a product photo shoot with a dog model in the studio in the summer. 2019 is going to be hard to beat.

Indresano Studios handles all casting needs including animal castings

We created an emotional video interview for a corporate client in 2019. We shot the video on location and told the story of a breast cancer survivor. We were fortunate enough to interview the survivor herself, as well as her friends and family. The final video was played at an international company event in September.

We of course had many delicious food photo shoots and ice cream photo shoots in the studio with great clients. We love our clients 🙂

Boston Food Photographer Michael Indresano creates appetizing and mouth-watering food images for well known food brands.

2019 was full of food photography, ice cream photography, food videos, interview videos, documentaries, and creative challenges and solutions. FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY FOR IMPROPER BOSTONIAN COVER SHOOT

We had a blast capturing some food photography for Improper Bostonian’s Fall Dining issue cover! We’re always happy to have an excuse to have some fresh pasta in the studio 🙂

The combination of fresh ravioli and a good quality camera is an Italian photographer’s dream come true!

It was such a treat to have our longtime friend John Carafoli as the food stylist for this shoot. He is so talented!

Here is a quick glimpse of the beginning stages of making fresh pasta.

John worked his magic to create delicious pasta! It takes a lot of time, patience, diligence, and intense attention to detail, but the end results are so worth it.

We went to great heights to capture the detailed texture of the delicious pasta. An overhead shot allowed us to showcase John’s final creation in the best way!

We used red, green, and natural pasta to create an edible Italian flag. Who says you shouldn’t play with your food? 😉

Check out the final cover below and grab your copy of Improper Bostonian’s Fall Dining issue as soon as you can!
