Michael surveys a sea of plants

It’s the middle of Winter and if Nature had its way, nothing would bloom. Well today we are seeing something that we usually don’t see this time of year – flowers and plants in full bloom. Michael took the team to Cavicchio Greenhouses in Sudbury to conjure up some Springtime magic, even if it’s below freezing outdoors. That’s no problem, as the temperature in these high-tech greenhouses is a comfortable 75 degrees all year round. Surrounded by glimpses of the Spring to come, seeds of a beautiful shoot are sown with the terrific team from BJs .

Since spring skipped Boston, we moved straight into summer! Our good friends at BJ’s Wholesale Club asked us to help out with their summer preview member journal and we were ready for a little sunshine in the studio. It was super fun to work with the kids and the team at BJ’s; who wouldn’t want to spend a day at the beach!

Cindi Emery holds court giving the kids a pep talk before they go on set.

Kacie Corbelle from Ennis works her magic on the talent as Cindi “The Child Whisperer” gets the best performance from kids!

This beats going to school! Right?…….

…Well, not when you have to have your haircut! This little guy was a trooper.

The parents relax in our client area and can keep an eye on set by watching the TV tethered to the camera.

Victoria shows Natalia the activity on set. She might follow in Dad’s footsteps behind the camera!

We were very excited to work on BJ’s first Digital Edition of their Member Journal.  Please check out some of our shots below, from fruits and veggies to smoothies to home and body.  Here’s wishing all of you a happy and healthy 2013!

Beautiful cover featuring four different types of smoothies – including one made from kale!

BJ’s is where to go for all of your fresh produce needs.

Everything you need to keep that cold at bay this season.

And check out some of the behind-the-scenes from this shoot:

Up close with the smoothies; these things are nutritional powerhouses.

Food stylist, Karen Tully, and her assistant create beautiful smoothies for the front cover of the digital journal.

Some of the many tools helpful in creating the perfect journal-worthy food shots.

Here are some more of our favorite behind-the-scenes photo opps from 2012.  We hope you enjoy, and we look forward to capturing even more fun moments on set in 2013.  Happy new year, everyone!

Velcro shoot: the school children — ahem, crew — sit quietly at their desks as they wait to take directions from the teacher during Saturday detention.

Long shoot days make for a sleepy Lulu!

Our 2012 interns learned a lot (while having some fun!) in the studio this year.  Thanks Elise, Anthony, and Allie for all your help!

The creatives from Hill Holliday don’t mind taking risks on set as they encourage our model to leap over them.

Caleb shows up at work even against Doctor’s orders.

Joel and Michael do a great job telling jokes to get our child actors smiling during a shoot.

Lauren and Jen get crafty in the kitchen during a shoot – cake decorating takes some serious teamwork!

Resident studio pooch, Sophia, takes her place on set as her dad (Michael) sets up.

Food stylist and Instagram-enthusiast, Catrine Kelty, takes a moment on set to post a snapshot for her avid followers.

Michael and Digital Tech, Jen, review images outside on a chilly day shooting on location, their iced coffees never far away.

The special effects costume designer puts some final details on the alien hand for a Men in Black III promotion.

We all decided to give up our summer diets for one day only when the smell of freshly baked  pizza permeated the studio last month.  There was no escaping the grip this cheesy goodness had on our senses – it smelled so good even the camera couldn’t get enough…

After a day of shooting and help from master food stylist, Catrine Kelty, we delivered the ad-worthy shot above.  The ad is featured in this month’s BJ’s journal.

Catrine uses a heat gun to keep the cheese nice and melty until Michael gets the perfect shot.

Doubling as a prop stylist, Catrine never fails to bring a wide array of props… this lady really knows what she’s doing.

Close-up of the heat gun in action… must keep that cheese melted to remain picture perfect!

Michael studies the layouts to make sure the lighting is perfect.

***CLIENTS!  New feature: All of the images Michael shoots on set can be viewed real-time on the oversized flat screen TV in our client sitting area.  Now you can sit back, relax, and oversee the shoot from the comforts of the massage chair!

After a long day, it’s time to serve up some hot slices.

We had the great opportunity to shoot for the BJ’s Member Journal recently. Working with their creative team and many different talented stylists over the course of multiple days was a fun time. The variety of the sets and shots are one of the great parts of shooting for them, as well as seeing some familiar faces.

Always relaxed and calm, Sara Mills-Broffman stakes her spot on the beach set, for the next shot.

Prop stylist turned florist, Caroline Woodward trims the stems of these beautiful roses.

Food stylist Sunny Ricks sorts through and cuts up the best pieces of fruit for an attractive and appetizing looking platter.

Multi-talented stylist and hair/make-up artist, Courtney Kilmartin keeps a watchful eye on the models skin under the studio lights.

The guest of honor, Lulu,  blissfully takes a nap in Loretta’s arms.
