We always love a client that comes to us with a new approach, and this Limited Release Timberland photography and video shoot was exactly that. What better way to showcase a purple boot than with beautiful photo smoke!

When shooting photo and video with colored smoke, it’s important to be in a well ventilated area. And what’s more ventilated than shooting outside! We built our own little set right in our parking lot, which certainly had heads turing on the sidewalk.

While overcast skies can be great for lighting, the Sony camera is not a fan of the possible rain that comes along with it. Fortunately, our team created the perfect umbrella attachment to keep the Sony dry and happy!

The team worked with the shifting winds in order to capture the perfect shot of the smoke engulfing the boot. We ended up with some truly amazing images and video clips.

Close up, you can see the colors blending right at the point of ignition before billowing out in the wind. The saturation and movement of the smoke amazed us, it was almost like ink in water!

To help balance out some of the red in the smoke, we counteracted it with a blue light, leading to the perfect shade of purple.

After covering the block in a faint purple haze, it was time to edit! The goal was a seamlessly looped video, and our client was impressed with what we put together. Check it out below!
